The Monadanock Expandable Baton course is a field-level certification program designed to acquaint students with operational use of the Tactical Baton, Tactical Restraints. The training includes basic portability (carrying) and presentation (drawing) techniques as well as defensive application procedures. Certification acknowledges that the individual officer met a competency-based standard of knowledge and performance.
Monadanock Defense Tactics Systems [MDTS]

Monadnock Defense Tactics System is an integrative approach to dealing with a subject who is non-compliant and unarmed, but offering resistance to being arrested or who is trying to assault a citizen, officer or officers. The foundation of MDTS is the escort position. Officers will learn several methods to move to a position of advantage and from there secure one of two escort positions. Students will learn how to handcuff compliant and non-compliant subjects and learn how to deflect an attack through instinctive one and two-hand blocking techniques. These defensive maneuvers are designed to neutralize the attack (not the attacker).

Through a combination of Practical Exercises and Classroom instruction you will learn:
- How to identify the stages of conflict in order to: recognize the threat, reduce the threat, and determine how and when to use force.
- How to apply state-of-the-art tactical concepts such as: spraying techniques, disengagement, proper defensive positions, methods of movement, multiple opponent defense, contact and cover system, defense against moving attacks, ground defense, and drawing techniques.
- How to avoid liability suits through: Certified training, understanding the effects of OC spray, identifying factors which justify OC use, and proper OC incident documents.
OCAT® is a non-product specific training program. Once trained and certified you and your agency decide which brand, canister size, heat and spray pattern suit your needs.
